James founded Gravity Investments in 2000 at the age of 26. His inventions for diversification measurement, optimization, search and visualizations form the core of Gsphere, used to help about 100 clients, such as investments managers, registered investment advisors, hedge funds, allocators and fund consultants manage or advise over twenty billion dollars. This experience allowed James to architect and engineer dozens of investment processes used by diverse clients. It is James’s vision to build technology to enable the combination of the best ideas and methodologies of our clients, or other proven strategies with our best practices in essential but overlooked dimensions of any investment process, all rooted in True Diversification®. James has developed unique skills for investment managers or even financial engineers, having expertise in quantitative finance, genetic algorithms, econometrics, database design, computational geometry, data visualization and modeling, intellectual property and strategy. Prior to forming Gravity Investments, he was a floor broker at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, a systems program trader and an investment advisor.
John joined Gravity in 2008 where his responsibilities include strategic planning, leadership and overall operations. During his career, John has led and facilitated private and institutional capital commitments of $100 million for early-stage companies including: equity, mezzanine, senior and subordinate debt, and M&A with economic development subsidies. His career highlights include co-founding the Consulting Solutions Division, Corporate Account Group, and the Global Business Partner Program at Intergraph, a Fortune 500 company and the leading global provider of engineering and geospatial software. More recently he held numerous high level positions including: Chairman of Gen Pharmaceuticals, CEO of MadCatz and co-CEO of LandInfo International. He earned his MBA in Finance at the Daniels School of Business with a BA in economics cum laude with departmental distinction from DePauw University.
Gene is our Executive Vice-President of Sales. His focus is on demonstrating the effectiveness and ease in using Gravity’s tools and patented software to gather AUM, preserve capital in turbulent markets and improve incremental performance.
Prior to joining Gravity, Gene was a VP, Financial Advisor and Chairman’s Club member at Merrill Lynch; VP Branch Manager of NatCity Investments for the Birmingham and Ann Arbor, Michigan Wealth Management Broker offices; and VP, Senior Relationship Manager for PNC Wealth Management. In his prior roles Gene concentrated on gathering assets under management from corporations, private business owners, and high net worth individuals and advising on investment strategy, estate planning and business succession planning.
Gene served as a US Naval Officer after obtaining his BS in Finance from Siena College in upstate New York.
ohn Schoonbrood joined Gravity as CFO in late 2015. His background is in corporate finance and entrepreneurship.
After graduating Wharton Business School in 1995, he joined Baan Company NV and in 1998 J.D. Edwards; both in the capacity of corporate treasurer. Both Baan and J.D. Edwards were leading global ERP software companies, with extreme growth rates leading up to Y2K. John left J.D. Edwards in 2003 when the company was acquired by Peoplesoft. Subsequently, John was CFO for the publicly traded company College Partnership Inc for one year. Thereafter, as CFO, he successfully managed the fundraising and administration of Intuitect, a small Boulder software startup. In 2005, he joined a dietary supplement company whose assets he acquired in 2006. He’s been active in the health supplement industry as a consultant, product developer, and CEO ever since.
John’s background is unique in applying big corporate experience to small business needs and limitations.
Jay graduated from the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University and has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry as an advisor and wealth manager. Prior to joining Gravity, he was a Managing Director at Wells Fargo Advisors as well as a VP with UBS. At UBS, Jay was a member of the Chairmans Council for the top 200 advisors in the firm and named as a top ten nest egg manager by the Orlando Business Journal.
At Gravity, Jay helps advisors and RIA’s gather assets under management to grow their book of business. His focus is on presenting solutions through Gravity’s investment platform and patented software that advisors utilize to manage their clients’ portfolios more effectively.
Chris is the Senior Vice President for the Mid America Region and brings over thirty years of experience in the financial services industry. As a retail and institutional executive with some of the country’s premier investment companies he has advised ultra high net worth investors, corporate investors, as well as hedge funds, mutual funds, endowments and foundations. As a Sales and Marketing Director and Board member he has raised the profile for several national investment management firms. Chris’ diverse background and industry contacts are a perfect fit for the distribution and integration of Gravity’s suite of products to the investment community.
Chris is a graduate from the the University of Southern California with a degree in Business Management. An Academic All American in Basketball, he was drafted into the NBA by the Houston Rockets.
Kevin serves as Senior Vice President for the Plains states and Pacific Northwest. He focuses on providing value to forward-thinking advisors and RIAs wanting to grow and leverage their businesses through technology. By incorporating Gravity’s custom institutional RoboAdvisory solutions as well as portfolio management and analytical tools provided through Gsphere.net, Kevin enables advisors to automate their investment process and free up more time to focus on their clients and grow their business.
Kevin is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Gravity, Kevin’s background includes providing customized wealth management and comprehensive financial plans to high net worth individuals, creating and implementing estate and wealth transfer strategies, as well as trading options and futures in New York City.
Kevin received a BA in economics from Yale University where he also played football and an MBA in finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder Leeds School of Business.
Gregory Toropov, Ph.D
Gregory is a professional developer with an experience of more than 10 years in the industry. Having worked with some of the leading companies in CAD/CAE and accounting software development in Russia. He specializes in desktop and web development with Microsoft software development tools. Gregory has completed his Phd in Moscow Aviation University in Numerical Simulation field. He is associated with Gravity Capital Partners since November, 2012 and is responsible for implementation of financial algorithm logic, Pdf Reports, WebGL graphics, support of desktop application for Gravity and Amazon services support for Gravity.
